BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s tennis team was clipped 4-3 by Lehigh on Saturday on the final day of the regular season. The Bison head into next week’s Patriot League Tournament at 11-11 overall and 2-2 in league play. The seedings will be announced by the league office this week, with the tournament right back at Lehigh starting with an opening-round match on Thursday.
Amar Tahirovic was a two-time winner on Saturday, and Brendan McDonald and Will Robinson also won their singles matches.
Tahirovic and Adam Stavrakas started the day with a 6-3 win over Sean Jaeger and Alex Van Lumich at No. 1 doubles. Lehigh quickly followed with a 6-2 win at No. 3 and then took the doubles point when Wyeth Anzilotti and Henry Stoller won a tiebreaker at No. 2.
Tahirovic downed Jaeger 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to move within one of Bucknell’s all-time record. He now has 111 career singles wins, one shy of Nick Bybel’s record of 112.
McDonald downed Ofer Hacochen 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5, and Robinson won 7-5, 6-7, 10-7 at No. 6. Lehigh earned straight-set wins in the 2-3-4 spots to claim the win, with Kosei Ogata clinching it at No. 4.
