Shane Flanagan is reportedly set to be axed as Dragons coach.

Chairman Andrew Lancaster and CEO Tim Watsford will face the media on Monday morning where it expected they will confirm the news.

It is understood the Dragons held a meeting with Flanagan on Sunday after the club slumped to a seventh-straight loss to start the season.

It is not yet known whether Flanagan will coach the team for their Anzac Day clash with the Roosters.

Assistant coaches Dean Young and Michael Ennis are the leading candidates to take over for Flanagan on an interim basis.

Saturday’s 30-12 loss to Souths followed a 28-18 defeat to Manly and a 32-0 shutout against North Queensland which saw Flanagan, who took over from Anthony Griffin after he was sacked by the Dragons midway through the 2023 season, booed by the Red V faithful.

Having already lost his final four games in charge to close out 2025, Flanagan could finish on a 11-game losing streak as Dragons coach should the club swing the axe.

Flanagan struck a forlorn figure in the post-match press conference following the Souths loss.

“Of course it puts pressure on. It puts me and the club under pressure,” he said.

“We’re not winning footy games and I understand that. It’s a business of winning and we’re not winning.

“I get to work every day and all I can do is do my best to prepare the players the best I can, and if it doesn’t work and they decide to make another decision, well I’ve just got to live with it.”

Flanagan appeared to have some understanding of his fate having admitted to Australian Associated Press before the Cowboys loss that he needed to win games to keep his job.

“I fully understand it. If you’re going to coach at a big club we expect to win,” Flanagan told AAP ahead of the loss to the Cowboys.

“That’s the cut-throat nature we’re in sport. You see it all over the world if you don’t win.

“The club and CEO, chairman and board have been rock solid. But I am not silly enough to understand that if you don’t win, they’ve got to change something.

“We can’t change our 30-man roster, I can’t sack 30 players. So guess what, it’s (on me).”

The Dragons face the Roosters in the annual ANZAC Day clash next Saturday.
