WA Police Perth District Superintendent Amber Harvey has confirmed the thousands of people who showed up to Forrest Place on Saturday to ‘worship the cactus’, were generally well-behaved.
She said the organiser initially tried to cancel the event, but by that time it had “gone too far on social media” with droves of people planning to attend the mock event.

“We had a police presence down there,” she told Radio 6PR this morning.
“A large number turned up on the Saturday, but they were well-behaved. We had a few issues early on with a couple of them, but then generally the crowd were really positive, it was a good vibe down there.
“The messaging that we sent out to people was that if you’re coming down with your friends doing the worship, it’s obviously not an offence to do that, but as soon as you try to fix yourself [to the cactus] or cause damage … that’s when police will intervene.”
