Early on in Tyler Atkins’ Beast, Daniel MacPherson’s retired mixed martial arts fighter Patton James is shown on a fishing boat in the middle of a storm, struggling to keep control as waves and rain batter the vessel.
According to MacPherson, the scene could serve as a metaphor for the film’s production, which faced its own sea of challenges over the past four years, ranging from casting to budget to physical and mental setbacks.
