A beloved Mandurah café has closed after nine years of ‘nourishing’ locals.

Nourishing the Soul was the only place to get hot coffee and good food in the suburb of Mariners Cove.

But owner Paige Baylis said farewell last weekend citing redevelopment of the site as one of the reasons for the closure.

In 2023, about 70 locals protested the redevelopment concerned about parking, access to the existing marina and environmental impact on the Creery Wetlands.

A $6.4m five townhouse, seven apartment three-storey mixed-use development by Salander Property and lot owner Urban Orchard including a marina extension, 46 boat pens, a restaurant and 50 parking bays was approved for the site in 2023.

Which meant for the past three years, Ms Baylis was operating without a lease.

But taking to social media last week the café owner gave thanks to her regulars.

“This café has been so much more than just a place to eat and drink – it has been a home, a meeting place, and a space filled with laughter, stories, friendships, and countless memories,” Ms Baylis wrote.

“The daily banter, the familiar faces, the small moments we’ve shared… these are the things we will carry with us forever.

“To every single person who has walked through our doors, supported us, shared a laugh, or simply made this place what it is – thank you. You’ve meant more to us than words can truly express.

“We will miss you deeply. More than you know.”

The post had more than 180 comments from heartbroken coffee lovers.

“You truly have nourished so many souls and now it’s time to truly nourish your own,” one woman wrote.

The latest closure, comes after the owner of Silk Thai shut the doors following protests by locals.

After 24 years, award winning Italian restaurant Paparazzi also closed last month.
