Coronation Street spoilers follow.

There was a big occasion on Coronation Street tonight, as Carla Connor and Lisa Swain finally began to tie the knot after months of drama. But while they aim for their happily-ever-after, a loud scream echoed throughout Weatherfield during the party.

With Carla and Lisa’s romance being threatened by the arrival – and subsequent schemes – of Becky, there was a time when it looked dicey for the pair. But after Becky was found out, Carla and Lisa vowed to stick together.

The big day was almost scuppered as the wedding venue was partially flooded following an act of vengeance, and tonight’s episode of the ITV soap began with Carla being greeted by Sally with a bunch of flowers.

As they headed to the hotel, Betsy paid tribute to her mother and Carla, though Lisa said they needed to forge ahead and focus on the future rather than dwelling on the past in any shape or form.

The ceremony went swimmingly, with Ryan, Betsy and Roy all being in attendance. That was until the alarm at the factory went off, but it was merely a ruse for Carla’s staff to surprise the happy couple.

After Roy delivered a heartfelt speech, the couple took to the floor for their first dance. They subsequently had a quiet moment outside as they viewed the firework display, but heard a scream as they headed back inside.

Lisa asked what the noise could be, with Carla remarking that it was probably “just foxes”. She will, however, be mistaken, as a devastating discovery will be made ahead of a special set of episodes next week.

It turns out that the scream is from Betsy, who, as will be revealed in the next instalment, will have found a dead body outside. That’s only the start of the mystery, as the identity of the deceased is yet to be disclosed.

We do know that five individuals are in danger, with Megan Walsh, Jodie Ramsey, Carl Webster, Theo Silverton and Maggie Driscoll all being in the firing line. Over the course of the next week, all will be revealed.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
