SUPERCARS has established a standalone international committee for the express purpose of exploring all sorts of opportunities abroad without detracting from its Australasian heartland.
The initiative was revealed by Barclay Nettlefold to V8 Sleuth, although the championship’s interim CEO was less forthcoming on precise details – including declining to name the identities of those on the committee.
“Just corporately, we have set up an international committee to look at it separate and outside of what we’re doing in Australia,” Nettlefold told V8 Sleuth.
“It’s a broader and bigger strategy for international.
“We just don’t want it to be taking away focus from the growth of the Australian market at the moment.”

Former CEO James Warburton had voiced interest in creating a breakaway series based out of Asia and the Middle East, and Nettlefold affirmed that remains an attractive proposition.
But again, Nettlefold stresses that the homegrown element must not be compromised.
At 14 rounds, this year’s calendar is Supercars’ most expansive since 2019.
“The teams are saying 14 seems like the right number,” said Nettlefold.
“I think I’m on record three years ago as saying I’d love 15. I still think 14-15 is the right number… we might end up finding by 2028 we might need another race on the mainland.”
A new Perth street circuit is due to come online as the 2028 season-opener, but that would likely take Wanneroo’s place on the calendar.
A mooted street circuit somewhere in New South Wales, potentially Wollongong, could be a logical addition to the existing 14 events.
