The location and date for Tim Tsyzu’s blockbuster showdown against Errol Spence Jr. has reportedly been locked in and it is great news for Australian boxing fans.

Tszyu vs Diaz | Wednesday 6 May from 7pm AEST | Nikita Tszyu continues his rise in boxing as he takes on Spain’s undefeated Oscar Diaz. | Order Now with Main Event on Kayo Sports.

According to multiple reports, the bout is scheduled for Sunday July 26 and will take place down under, with the exact location yet to be determined.

Boxing insider Dan Rafael was first to report the news.

It comes after Code Sports reported earlier in the week that Spence’s hometown of Dallas was the favourite to host the fight should it have been held in the United States.

Venues in Sydney and Brisbane had also been floated, while the Gold Coast’s Cbus Super Stadium — with a capacity of 27,000 — recently entered the mix.

Former undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo made his prediction for the bout earlier this week, backing Tszyu to win and challenging the Australian to a fight should he defeat Sebastian Fundora.

But Tszyu must first get the job done against Spence before turning his attention to a potential fight with Charlo and the Australian already appears locked in, having this week axed his entire fight team for the second time in six months.

The move has seen Tszyu part ways with Cuban boxing coach Pedro Diaz, strategic adviser Mike Altamura and manager Darcy Ellis while reuniting with Hall of Famer Jeff Fenech

Speaking to Main Event’s Ben Damon after that decision, Tszyu promised he would be part of “one of the greatest victories in Australian boxing history”.

“This combination, Tszyu and Fenech, it’s not just going to be remembered in boxing history, but sporting history,” Tszyu said.

“It’s been a long time in the making and I wanted a big Australian synergy, you know.

“Something that has never happened.

“And this [fight with Spence] will be one of the greatest victories in Australian boxing history.”
