The trailer for the highly-anticipated new series with Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage taking on his first ever TV role (yes, true story) has just dropped.
Prime Video has unveiled the official trailer for Spider-Noir, an upcoming live-action series based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir.
The trailer made its world premiere in Mexico City at CCXPMX26, the largest pop culture festival in the world. Actors Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Jack Huston, and Karen Rodriguez, hit the stage to introduce the series while Cage dialled in virtually.
Moving away from the traditional, modern-day superhero narrative, Spider-Noir is a gritty period piece set in 1930s New York City.
It tells the story of Ben Reilly (Cage), a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.
“For me, this character was 70 per cent Bogart and 30 per cent Bugs Bunny,” Cage told Esquire of his first TV role.
“I was basically Mel Blanc doing Bogart, with that sarcastic sense of humour. But it’s a hundred per cent me.”
For Cage, a quirky, dark Marvel comic role was the perfect entry into TV after decades of success on the big screen.
“Comic books are by their nature episodic. As a child, I remember reading so enthusiastically but very impatiently for my next copy of whatever character I was reading. I was so immersed in that universe and wanted to know every bit of it, and I’d wait for the next one that would come out,” he told the publication.
“Television lends itself to that, perhaps even more than movies. We wanted to invoke what it felt like to have it in your hand, the touch, the smell of the paper, the graphics, all of that.”
The new series brings to life another nostalgic favourite – the return of choose-your-own-adventure storytelling.
For the first time ever, viewers will be able to choose between two different versions of the series, which will be available to stream in Authentic Black & White and True-Hue Full Colour.
Over on X, fans were already taking their pick on which version they’ll be watching.
“Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir. My heart just raced when I saw him in that suit. He looks so intense and perfect for the role. I pick the black and white version. It feels right for noir,” one fan wrote.
“This isn’t a superhero show, this is straight up noir storytelling️. The black & white version alone is gonna be art,” another added.
And another fan shared: “Nicolas Cage stepping into Spider Noir is either going to be a masterpiece or a beautiful chaos and honestly both sound worth watching.”
Spider-Noir will premiere globally on Prime Video on May 27
