NEW ORLEANS — On the heels of a third-straight winning season and a second-straight bowl championship, South Alabama will open its 2025 campaign on Saturday, August 30, when it hosts Morgan State at 7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT on ESPN+. 
 
The opener against the Bears will be the first-ever matchup between the two schools. 
 
South Alabama’s non-conference slate also features a home date with Tulane (Sept. 6) and road trips to in-state foe Auburn (Sept. 13) and North Texas (Sept. 27). Alongside annual dates with their West Division rivals, the Jaguars conference schedule includes a home matchup with Coastal Carolina (Sept. 20) and a road contest at Georgia State (Oct. 23) from the Sun Belt East Division. 
 
The Jaguars were picked fourth in the Sun Belt West Division, while earning 1-of-14 first-place votes in last month’s 2025 Sun Belt Conference Football Preseason Coaches Poll. 
 
Second-year head coach Major Applewhite will lead a roster that brings back two All-Sun Belt honorees from 2024 and had five players named to the 2025 Preseason All-Sun Belt teams—tied for the fifth-most in the conference. Redshirt senior linebacker Blayne Myrick was selected as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. 
 
South Alabama is coming off a 7-6 season in 2024, maintaining its winning ways in the first year of the Major Applewhite era. The Jaguars were part of the Sun Belt’s eight-team Bowl Season contingent that paced the non-autonomy conferences for the third-straight year, earning their second-straight bowl victory with a 30-23 win over Western Michigan in the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl. 
 
South Alabama is coming off the best three-year stretch in program history, with three-straight winning seasons, three-straight bowl berths and back-to-back bowl titles.
