Former Alabama wide receiver gets another NFL opportunity

When the Buffalo Bills hold their rookie minicamp next month, not all the players attending will be rookies.

The Bills have invited former Alabama wide receiver Jermaine Burton to attend on a tryout basis, the Schultz Report, Syracuse.com and Buffalo News reported on Sunday.

The Bills have not released the names of the undrafted rookies who have signed with the team or the players who will try out at the minicamp in hopes of earning a contract. The 10 players added to Buffalo’s roster during the NFL Draft Thursday through Saturday also will attend the rookie minicamp.

Burton has been a free agent since he cleared waivers after the Cincinnati Bengals released him on Dec. 8. He did not play during the 2025 season.

Burton didn’t make the trip for the Bengals’ 39-34 loss to the Bills on Dec. 7, and shortly before that game kicked off, Cincinnati announced Burton had been suspended for the contest, without providing a reason for the suspension.

Burton joined the Bengals from Alabama as a third-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. As a rookie, Burton had four receptions for 107 yards and returned 13 kickoffs for a 29.1-yard average. He was on the field for 131 offensive snaps and 37 special-teams plays in 14 games as a rookie.
