Two weeks ago, we learned that ASUS was announcing a new 12V-2×6 cable, a new reference whose aim is to protect graphics cards equipped with this connector. How is this achieved? By limiting the cable’s temperature rise, via more heat-resistant strands for example. However, at the time of its announcement, the price was unknown, which is no longer the case!

ROG Equalizer: the resistant 12V-2×6 from ASUS!
Capable of withstanding up to 17A per strand!

ASUS ROG Equalizer

Unlike other cables, such as ASRock’s with integrated thermal sensor or MSI’ s with current monitoring, ASUS’s is simpler. It has to use large cross-section cables. Indeed, while a conventional 12V-2×6 cable can handle a maximum of 9.2A per strand, the ASUS cable is rated at 17A, almost double the original standard. However, this allows it to operate in much better conditions, even when the load is grossly unbalanced. Cutting four power strands out of six, the ROG Equalizer operated at a maximum of 73°C, compared with over 140°C for a conventional cable. With this, you can always count on a purple tip to make sure you’ve pushed the plug in properly.

In short, with this cable, ASUS announces secure connectivity for NVIDIA’s RTX 50s, but also for certain AMD cards. Remember that the RX 9070 XT Nitro+ and RX 9070 XT Taichi have also had their connectors melted.

A $50 bill!

The said ASUS cable has been spotted on sale in the USA, where it retails for around $50. For Europe, let’s not kid ourselves: the selling price will be at least equivalent to that in America. What’s more, this is an option you can find directly with certain power supply series: ROG Thor and ROG Strix Platinum. For the others, you should be able to make a separate purchase, but power supply compatibility is something to keep an eye on. Indeed, in addition to the 16-pin, another 2-pin connector is present.
