Graceland is a place thousands of people visit every year, but it’s a very controlled environment. While you can go into the home, there are lots of roped-off areas you’re not allowed to enter. Instead, you can look in from behind the ropes.
On Monday, August 11th, Elvis Presley’s former girlfriend, Linda Thompson, showed us what life looked like on the other side of the ropes. She was allowed behind the scenes, and she took the world with her in this Instagram post:
First of all, she’s stunning. She looks so happy to be back here: these are her old stomping grounds. Linda Thompson lived at Graceland from 1972 to 1976, though she and Elvis had broken up by August 16th, 1977, when he died.
At that point, he was actually engaged to Ginger Alden, a model/actress, though Alden never lived at Graceland.
Linda Thompson did, though, and she returned to the Memphis mansion a few days ahead of the 48th anniversary of his death. She’s visited before, and she’s allowed behind-the-scenes access to her old home.

Allegedly, she’s even been allowed upstairs, though she wouldn’t publish photos of that: it’s against their policy. She was allowed to get up-close-and-personal with several of the iconic displays, including:
His peacock glass panes.
The red chairs in the living room.
The fur-coated chair in the Jungle Room.
This is just amazing. To get this close to the displays at Graceland would be a total dream!
