Cooks Hill United will play one of the biggest games in their history when they take on the Newcastle Jets on Wednesday evening.

Their 3-2 victory against Adelaide Croatia Raiders in the Round of 32 was their first appearance on the national stages of the competition, and the team from Newcastle has been rewarded for their victory with a game against the Jets.

Joshua Benson scored a brace in that game and will be a player to watch as Cooks Hill look to pull off a ‘Cupset’ against their region’s A-League Men’s team.

Newcastle were well on top in their victory over fellow A-League Men’s team Adelaide United and their 2-1 victory was just reward. New signing Alex Badolato scored on debut and will be hoping to repeat the feat in the Round of 16.

The Jets have only reached the quarter-finals of the Hahn Australia Cup once, back in 2019.

Australian Championship foundation club South Melbourne will host A-League Men premiers Auckland FC as South look to reach the quarter-finals for the third time in their history.

Auckland eased past Gold Coast Knights in their Hahn Australia Cup debut last time out, and stayed in Queensland to gain valuable preseason minutes against the Roar.

However, South Melbourne will be a different challenge, and have plenty of Hahn Australia Cup experience. They knocked out fellow Kiwi A-League Men’s side Wellington Phoenix from the competition last year and will hope to add to the feat this time out.

It is set to be a fascinating match-up in Melbourne.

NPL Victoria and NPL New South Wales contenders will face off on Wednesday in a battle of the states between Avondale FC and APIA Leichhardt.

Avondale made light work of Stirling Macedonia in the Round of 16, while APIA Leichhardt knocked out A-League Men’s side Melbourne City and became the first member federation side to defeat three A-League teams in the Cup.

Both teams are in good form in the league and will take plenty of confidence into this fixture.

Avondale have made the quarter-finals once, in 2018, while APIA have done so in 2018 and 2021.

The fixture will be a fascinating battle ahead of the Australian Championship kicking off later this year.
