COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) — No. 10 seed Texas A&M men’s tennis saw its season end Saturday with a 4-2 loss to Stanford in the College Station Regional at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Aggies started off the day by clinching the doubles point with a 6-3 win by Theo Papamalamis and Togan Tokac, and a 7-5 win by Alex Frusina and Kholo Montsi.
Stanford claimed victories in the No. 2 and No. 4 singles to pull ahead. Samir Banerjee defeated Kholo Montsi 6-1, 6-1, and Hudson Rivera defeated Markus Molder 6-3, 6-3.
Texas A&M tied the match when Togan Tokac defeated Jagger Leach 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles bout.
Alex Razeghi defeated Theo Papamalamis 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 1 singles matchup, clinching the 4-2 victory for the Cardinal.
“These tournament matches with everything on the line, they’re razor thin margins,” Texas A&M men’s tennis coach Steve Denton said. “We did a great job there and kind of stealing that doubles point late. And that put us in a good spot. But then we weren’t able to close out a couple first sets that we were ahead in. And I think that was ultimately a difference. I think we lost a couple tiebreakers that were our undoing.”
The Aggies finished the season 20-10. This is the first time Texas A&M has failed to reach the super regional round of the NCAA tournament since 2023.
