THE VW Scirocco that made headlines after crashing out of the 2026 Bathurst 6 Hour is set to be resurrected, with plans afoot to combine the crashed car with a fresh shell for the 2027 event.
And what’s more, the car will be campaigned by 710 Motorsport, the outfit behind the cult hero ex-Bathurst 1000 Toyota Camry, which raced in both the 2024 and ’26 6 Hour races.
The team of Russell Greaves, Shane Logan and Darren Goddard have subsequently campaigned the Camry in grassroots Motor Events Racing fixtures.
The donor Scirocco was involved in the biggest crash of the 2026 event, with driver Richard Barram sent to Orange hospital with multiple injuries, including a broken vertebra, multiple rib fractures and multiple foot fractures.
Grant Denyer was also involved in the contentious incident and suffered a dislocated shoulder.
“Some change in direction – the S3 will not be ready for the Bathurst 6 Hour 2027, so as not to miss the event, I have purchased two VW Sciroccos,” read a post on the team’s Facebook page.
“One in mint condition and one very damaged car from the 2026 event.
“Work will now commence building one car out of the two, being already homologated, the car will be at the 2027 event.
“Must say a big thank you to Darren Goddard for his commitment to this project.”
Easter Sunday in 2027 falls on the 28th of March.
