Fortunately, this year the answer was yes. The superstar arrived tonight in a custom, sculptural Maison Margiela creation by Glenn Martens, paired with a striking Art Deco-style headpiece. Inspired by the brand’s 2025 Artisanal collection, she wore a draped column silhouette inspired by the medieval architecture of Flanders, the northern region of Belgium. (Martens is a Belgian designer.) This high-fashion moment was styled by Jahleel Weaver.

The striking, hand-shaped dress was made from duchess silk, with recycled metal threads usually used for computer wiring. The corseted bodice features more than 115,000 crystal beads, antique jewels and chains. (The embroidery alone required 1,380 hours of work.)
A$AP Rocky, meanwhile, in custom Chanel by Matthieu Blazy, arrived right after her. The rapper wore a pink wool cape with black satin lapels and black piping details, adorned with a black silk and feather camellia. He completed the look with black trousers and a white cotton shirt. (The look required 194 hours to create, while the final impression was rounded off with pieces from Chanel’s high jewelry collection.)

Of course, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have dominated the Met Gala red carpet many times before, and they have turned arriving late to the event into something of a tradition. For the 2025 “Superfine” theme, Rihanna revealed her third pregnancy in a custom Marc Jacobs creation, while Rocky, one of that year’s co-chairs, wore custom AWGE inspired by Harlem style.
In 2023, the couple also arrived late, at 10 p.m., with Rihanna wearing custom white Valentino and Rocky in a (fantastic) Gucci skirt. Other unforgettable Met Gala moments?
