NICK Percat’s protégé, Harry Bresnehan, this weekend steps up to the Mustang Cup at the second round of the season at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park.
The outing represents the first foot in the door for Percat’s JND Motorsport equipe to the class, with Percat himself stepping into the Ford fold this year via his endurance drive with the Blue Oval-aligned Red Bull Ampol Racing.
“Massive thanks to Ford and Ryan McLeod for the opportunity to place our young JND driver in the Mustang Cup,” said Percat, who will be on hand at The Bend in his TV commentary role with the Shannons SpeedSeries.
“Harry has worked with me for three years now and is in the early stages of his car racing career.
“I think Harry will really enjoy the challenge of learning a new car and circuit.
“It’s a last-minute deal, and we’re throwing him in the deep end, but I believe he’ll do great things both on and off the track.”
From karting, Bresnahan recently stepped into the TGRAUS Scholarship Series.
“I’m really excited to get the opportunity to drive and experience the Mustang Cup,” he said.
“When Nick called me on Wednesday night to say I’d be racing, I couldn’t believe it.
“The advice was simple — put the gear shifter on the opposite side on my sim and get on the plane Thursday morning.”
For this weekend’s second outing for the Mustang Cup, 11 cars are set to greet the starter.
Missing in action will be James Golding, Aaron Cameron and James Moffat, while Jack Perkins will be looking to make amends after a troubled first outing in the class at Phillip Island.
The class has two races over the weekend.
