After Chris Randall crossed the line for the opening try of the match, opposing centre Robert Toia struck back in the 30th minute but the try was awarded under a ton of controversy.

Although replays suggested that the Roosters centre had lost the ball while trying to ground it, bunker official Adam Gee confirmed the try, thus allowing them to get back into the match.

“We’ve already had some officials come and tell us that it was the wrong call,” Hannay said post-match when asked about the outcome of the decision.

“I don’t know how you look at it, slow it down. I was looking at the same pictures, so I just don’t know how you get that wrong.

“It’s hard to get the decision right (when it is) live all the time but when you have the technology we have in the game today, I just don’t understand how they sort of ruled that a try.

“You say it didn’t impact the outcome but how do we know? How do we know? It’s frustrating.”

Clear obstruction? Titans fans look away | 00:32

Titans skipper Tino Fa’asuamaleaui was also perplexed at the decision to not overrule it especially seeing it live on the field.

“I’m seeing that in front of me and at the time that’s why I approached the ref was because it looked (like) a knock-on in my opinion,”

“But my job was to re-group the group and make sure that we get into our next job. I didn’t want to take that energy back to the group and before you know it, the game’s done.

“In real time I saw it and thought it was a bit disappointing but I had to do a job.”

The following try to James Tedesco in the 37th minute was also controversial.

Titans fullback Keano Kini claimed that Daniel Tupou had illegally denied him the opportunity to tackle Tedesco.

However, Hannay was fine with the decision made by the bunker to award it a try.

“To me, that was sort of inadvertent. He couldn’t get out of the way, couldn’t disappear,” Hannay said.

“He wasn’t running an obstruction for anyeon, so it was just a challenge fore Keano to get around him but that’s play on there.”
