Geelong superstar Jeremy Cameron has given a hilarious insight into the club’s delayed celebrations for 200-gamer Tom Stewart, after a thumping nine-goal win over Collingwood on Saturday night.

While the record-equalling milestone for Magpies legend Scott Pendlebury understandably held the limelight at the MCG during their Round 9 clash, the Cats’ own five-time All-Australian celebrated his own landmark.

The 33-year-old South Barwon product still gathered 21 disposals despite close attention at times from Ned Long, in a win that Cameron believed was one of the club’s more well-rounded victories this year.

“I think so, I think so (one of our better wins). We’ve been chipping away and working on it — a few layers to our game. But, putting it together for four quarters is really important,” Cameron told Fox Footy in the changerooms post-game.

“I felt like tonight was the closest we’ve got to that; there’s still some things we can sharpen up on of course, but overall, it was a pretty good balance when we had the ball in hand and defensively as well. It was a nice result.”

The reigning Coleman Medallist himself finished with 19 disposals and nine score involvements in a role that saw him play higher up the ground once more, but as he amusingly revealed, neither he nor the club could properly celebrate their win or Stewart’s milestone match.

Kath Loughnan: “Jez, good to get a win in Tom Stewart’s 200th game as well. Can you give us a little bit more insight as to what he’s exactly like behind closed doors at the club? He just seems like such a good bloke.

Jeremy Cameron: “Yeah absolutely, he’s a ripping bloke. He’s a little bit flat that tonight’s win has fallen on a five-day break, so there won’t be any celebrations until somewhere down the track — we’ll get to it! He’s an enormous character for our club, he really wears his heart on his sleeve when he plays. He probably bashes himself up a bit too much at times when he doesn’t play his role to the best of ability. But, at times we’ve seen players go to him and really try to tag him, if you will. That’s how important he is, and that’s how good he can get going. It’s nice to get a really good win for him in his 200th game. We know he started footy late, but he hasn’t taken a backwards step since.

KL: “Just take us back a little bit with what you were saying. If you were in charge of the Tom Stewart afterparty tonight, where are you going and what are you doing?

JC: (laughs) I’ll go anywhere! I’ll go anywhere, but I’m not a ‘go out’ sort of person anymore. Early (career) days maybe up in Sydney, but I’m more a ‘light the fire and get a heap of firewood’, as much as you possibly can … and have the boys around that! If I was in charge, I would have the fire lit, but I don’t know if ‘Stewy’ likes that too much.

David King: This is my forte, working out what sort of guys people are after-hours. I think Jez, you’d be a ‘lock-in’ specialist; you’re the sort of guy (who would) lock the doors, dim the lights — let’s go.

Scott: ‘Always a challenge!’ | 11:10

JC: Yeah absolutely, yeah, that is my sort of go. I like the peace and quiet, if you will. Sometimes it gets a bit late, it does — that’s something I’ve always had to work on (laughs). But, I don’t pull up that well these days, let’s be honest. Especially when you’ve got a toddler nipping at your heels, so I’ve changed a bit. But yeah, that’s me in a nutshell.

The Super Saturday Live panel briefly reverted to discussing the outstanding performances from some of Cameron’s teammates, before two-time North Melbourne premiership player David King had one last burning question to ask about Fox Footy’s own Nathan Buckley — who this year joined the Cats as an assistant coach.

DK: You’ve been at a couple of clubs now, you’ve had a whole host of different assistant coaches. Some are nerds, some are jocks, some of them let you get away with a bit of liberal activity. What’s Bucks like, seriously? What’s he like?

JC: I haven’t seen Bucks much, because he’s the backline coach of course. I don’t watch too much footage throughout the week at all these days. I’m more a ‘see the line coaches, give them a wave’, and keep walking with me coffee (operator)! His office is there, I know where it is, but I haven’t been inside it. But, he’s been good. He’s a great help for our backs and getting them up and about to play some good football at times. However, I ended up at full back and conceded a goal there, and there was no back within 50 metres there — so I don’t know what happened there! I might bring it up with him during the week.
