Anthony Albanese has spoken of the power of a “national instinct for unity and fairness” that promotes lifting people up over shutting others out.

Marking the anniversary of the Australian Federation (May 9, 1901), the prime minister characterised the nation as being born with bold ambitions, big dreams, and broad horizons for everyone.

“Every time we have broken down barriers of disadvantage or discrimination and opened up the doors of opportunity, we have been stronger and richer for it,” Albanese said.
