Due to persistent conflicts in the Middle East and unfavorable factors such as international crude oil prices surpassing the $100-per-barrel mark, the global aviation and tourism industries are facing severe challenges. Currently, the supply of aviation fuel in the European market is tightening, and travel costs are surging, prompting a large number of people to revise their summer travel plans. Several major European airlines have also issued warnings regarding significant increases in operating costs.

The tourism and aviation industries are among the sectors most directly impacted by the current geopolitical situation. Analysts indicate that progress in relevant peace negotiations has been sluggish, with market expectations suggesting that regional tensions may persist over the long term. The volatile situation has not only severely affected Gulf region airlines and international aviation hubs such as Dubai, disrupting established international flight routes, but has also nearly doubled aviation fuel prices. At present, several large carriers have successively reported that profit margins are under significant pressure. According to industry forecasts, Air France’s aviation fuel expenditure for this year will surge by $2.4 billion, while Lufthansa and International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of British Airways, face anticipated fuel cost increases of approximately $2 billion.

In response to market uncertainties and high expenses, travelers’ behavior patterns are undergoing notable changes. To mitigate risks, many passengers are opting to delay booking times, shorten travel distances, and prefer alternative modes of transportation with more controllable costs. Some respondents based in the UK stated that due to skyrocketing international airfare prices and a heightened risk of flight cancellations, they have temporarily shelved intercontinental long-haul trips, instead formulating alternative plans centered on short-haul rail travel within Europe.
