Magic Round will remain in Brisbane until 2032.

That is according to Code Sports, who are reporting the Queensland government has agreed terms with the NRL on a fresh six-year contract after a crunch meeting.

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli and ARL Commission boss Peter V’landys negotiated the new deal on Wednesday morning, hoping to announce the news before the 2026 edition of Magic Round begins.

As it stands, the QLD government already held the hosting rights until the end of the 2027 season — with the NSW, South Australia, Western Australia and even New Zealand governments hopeful of brokering a deal to steal the event from Brisbane.

Of those suitors, it was Western Australia and New Zealand who were the two most interested parties.

“Lock it in to 2032. Magic Round is staying in Queensland – exactly where it belongs,” Crisafulli said to News Corp.

“I told Queenslanders we would stare down those other states and get this deal done and now Magic Round is secured for Queensland for the next six years.

“It’s a really big deal.

“When Queenslanders and footy come together magic happens and that’s exactly what a six-year deal represents for our state.

“We’re only just getting started with Magic Round, and soon we will have more details on how we will make it bigger and better than ever before.”

The Queensland government is reportedly planning to make the event bigger in the coming years, hoping to rival the biggest events on the Aussie sporting calendar.

Crisafulli’s plans to make the event statewide helped in securing a new deal with V’landys.

Meanwhile, Magic Round is set to expand to a nine-game spectacle from 2027 onwards with the Perth Bears set to join the competition.

“Queensland has been very good to us. We have always had a great relationship with the Queensland government,” V’landys said.

“David Crisafulli is one of the hardest negotiators I have ever had to deal with, I am thinking of hiring him to do our broadcast deal.

“What we liked about the Premier is that he is looking big picture. He wants to make it a much bigger event for Queensland and we want to be a part of it.”
