Heading into another NRL Magic Round in Brisbane there’s a whole lot of love coming from fans, players and administrators.

But one NRL club has reason to be far less enthusiastic about their annual visit to Suncorp Stadium than most—and, yes, it’s the long suffering St. George Illawarra Dragons.

Currently unbackable favourites for the 2026 wooden spoon with a 0-9 record and about to face a red-hot Panthers outfit on Sunday night, what could be worse for Dean Young’s struggling side?

How about the fact they’re the only NRL club never to have tasted victory in Magic Round since the concept was first held back in 2019.

Not-so-magic Dragons

According to every NRL fan’s favourite data cruncher Random Stats Guy the Dragons are currently 0-5 in Magic Round fixtures, losing their two most recent matches to the Wests Tigers, 34-28 in 2025 and 18-16 in 2023.

Their zero per cent success rate places them in outright last place behind the Bulldogs, Sea Eagles and Eels who have all tasted victory just once over the years.

On the flip side, the most successful NRL side in Magic Round history is the Canberra Raiders.

Ricky Stuart’s Green Machine boasts an impressive 5-1 record since 2019 but will be watching on from afar in 2026 having been handed the Round 11 bye.
