Organisers for the Philadelphia Cycling Classic presented by AmeriGas confirmed six WorldTour teams, two for the women’s race and five for the men’s race, would line up August 30 on Benjamin Franklin Parkway for the UCI 1.1-level events.

The women’s 100km showdown will start at 8:30 a.m. EDT, followed by the men’s 200km contest at 12:30 p.m. EDT. The traditional 23.1km circuit, which follows a flat stretch on Kelly Drive along the Schuylkill River then takes in the famed Manayunk Wall and Lemon Hill climbs, will be used for both races.

Lotto-Intermarché, Team Jayco AlUla, NSN Cycling Team, Lidl-Trek and EF Education-EasyPost provide star power from the men’s WorldTour, riding alongside four ProTeams and six Continental teams. The men’s field will also compete for a $75,000 prize purse.

Lauren Stephens (Aegis) won the elite women’s overall while Matthew Wilson (POA Racing) won the men’s overall, and with both absent from start lists the races are wide open this year.

Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment return with a six-rider roster, led by Kylee Hanel who was fourth overall at Tour of the Gila. Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY28 returns with Emmi Gilbert, who was third at Tour of the Gila, and Marlies Mejías and Anna Hicks, who were fourth and sixth overall last year, respectively, at Tour de Bloom. CCB Kenetik p/b Levine Law Group brings six riders as well led by Katherine Rusch, who was fifth last year.

Second overall in the men’s race last year, Tim McBirney returns on a four-rider Project Echelon Racing roster that includes Stephen Bassett. Nathan Martin, who was fourth overall last year, will lead SpeedBlock p/b Terun.

Project Echelon Racing and APS Pro Cycling by Cadence Cyclery of the US, Universe Cycling of France, Canel’s-Java of Mexico and Team Medellín-EPM, one of three teams from Colombia.

The same 84.3-mile course will be used for a third time, with a start on the George Washington Bridge, rolling north on the west side of the Hudson River, climbing at Harriman State Park and a finish in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

Last year Sean Christian earned the victory for Team Skyline just ahead of Brayan Sánchez (Team Medellin-EPM). Sánchez is expected to return, and will be joined by 49-year-old Óscar Sevilla for a strong one-two climbing duo.
