A colourful display at an east coast apartment complex has become the centre of an unlikely neighbourhood stoush, after a complaint prompted body corporate action against the quirky collection.
For years, the flock of colourful rubber ducks lining a balcony at Salacia Waters in Paradise Point on the Gold Coast has been bringing smiles to locals passing by.
The collection belongs to resident Wendy Rand.
She said it all began six years ago after she spotted rubber ducks floating in cocktails during a night out with her daughter.
After joking that she wanted to take one home as a souvenir, she later decided she’d go even further — buying 100 ducks online.

“We run past here nearly every morning, and they just, you know, just nice to look at, and all the kids love them,” one resident told 9News.
“I have a grandson, and he just adores them,” said another.
The Queensland woman is determined to keep her duck collection unless formally asked to remove them.

But the cheerful display has now ruffled feathers within the complex, after a resident complained the ducks did not match the aesthetic of the luxury waterfront building.
The complaint sparked backlash from other residents, many of whom have rallied behind Wendy and her growing collection.
“The joy it brings. It’s just such a shame that it’s being asked to be removed,” one supporter said. “I think they should stay 100 per cent.”
Wendy plans to stand firm after neighbour complaint
Rather than scaling back the display, Wendy said the dispute may only add to the flock, with locals now offering to donate even more ducks.
“We’re blown away by the support,” she told 9News.

Wendy has no plans to remove the collection unless formally directed to do so.
“I guess if I leave them there eventually, if this one person keeps complaining, they’ll have to put it in writing,” she said.
“But I’m standing firm until such time.”
