A couple of years ago, we were lucky enough to peek inside Booth House…
Originally built in 1970, the City Beach home was designed by iconic Perth-based architect Iwan Iwanoff – but over the ensuing 50-plus years, it had lost some of its glimmer.
When we last took a look at Booth House in 2023, it had just been thoughtfully reimagined by interdisciplinary design practice State of Kin – peeling back layers of insensitive renovations and rebuilt brick-by-brick, reinterpreting Iwanoff’s original design into a new age.
Now, it’s entering yet another era: Booth House is now officially on the market!
Located at 59 Oban Road, the four-bedroom home’s appeal transcends its impressive modernist design, with a 948sqm block just a stone’s throw from Floreat Beach.
Iwanoff’s signature concrete blocks remain a feature, offset by the warmth of teak panelling and sumptuous stone surfaces.
The layout looks to Iwanoff’s original floor plans, although opens up spaces like the kitchen and dining room to reflect a more contemporary mode of living.
Similarly, the emphasis between the connection between indoors and outdoors is heightened: a ubiquitous contemporary expression, sure, but one integral to modern liveability – especially when the outdoor space looks like this.
A loggia runs along the southern wing of the home, the large primary bedroom suite within overlooking the pool and alfresco.
Like an upscale hotel room, the ensuite is separated from the bedroom via sculptural timber vanity – that to us, evokes mid-century kitchens, and even timber-veneered kitchens in other Iwanoff homes.
A smaller bedroom has been tucked away behind the primary suite – looking out onto the garden, it’s been transformed here into a light-filled home gym.
While the other two bedrooms look to the front of the home, they’re no less tranquil – and feature their own stylish built-in cabinetry with reeded glass.
