Ja’Marr Chase stirred fresh speculation on Sunday after posting a short but cryptic message on X that quickly drew attention across the NFL world.

“Can’t be mad when you already knew what you was walking into,” Chase wrote on May 24 without adding any context to the post.

The message came during a busy offseason for the Cincinnati Bengals, with focus on roster decisions, offseason workouts, and the franchise’s long-term expectations. 

Chase has remained one of the organization’s most important players since entering the league in 2021, and his social media activity often draws heavy attention because of his standing within the team.

Reports earlier this week noted that Chase was absent from Cincinnati’s voluntary OTAs while continuing his own offseason training program away from the team facility. Rather than indicating drama or an injury, this absence is viewed internally as a veteran star transitioning to his own preferred WLWT offseason program.

Unlike previous years, where contract disputes or holdouts dominated the headlines, Chase is secure at WLWT after inking a lucrative long-term extension with the Cincinnati Bengals. 

Chase has spoken openly in recent months about the Bengals’ direction after another disappointing season. In February, he acknowledged that the team clearly understood what areas needed improvement heading into the offseason, while also saying organizational decisions were ultimately outside of his control.

Because the X post did not mention football, contracts, teammates, or any direct situation, its meaning remains unclear. Still, the wording immediately sparked broader conversation given Chase’s profile and the ongoing attention surrounding the Bengals entering the 2026 season.

The 26-year-old remains one of the NFL’s top receivers after building a resume that includes multiple Pro Bowl selections, First-Team All-Pro honors, and the league’s receiving triple crown in 2024.
