After 15 gruelling days, the Giro d’Italia reached Milano where they can enjoy a second rest day. Some are putting up mental fortress to bear the endless climbing days ahead while others plot ways to turn around their Giro. And for cycling fans, this is a perfect time to quickly look back at the last two weeks in terms of numbers.
The language of money is a solid reflection of each team’s role during this Grand Tour with a large €1.6 million prize money pool awaiting for the best of the best. A reward awaits the performers in individual stages as well as overall classification, but likewise the adventurers who participate in intermediate sprint battles.Of course, the biggest lump sum awaits the overall champion – €265,000 – next to Maglia Rosa and eternal glory. For the time being, Jonas Vingegaard seems to be well on the way to claim the title with a two-minute lead over Afonso Eulálio after stage 15.

XDS Astana is riding a tremendous Giro; following Guilhermo Thomas Silva’s pink jersey stint and Davide Ballerini’s chaotic victory in Napoli, Alberto Bettiol came back alive and won his first race in two years. However the losses of key riders, Christian Scaroni and Ballerini, will hurt their ambitions in last week of the race.
The Kazakhs move past Soudal – Quick-Step who were outside the spotlight for most of the last week with the sole sprint finish disrupted by successful breakaway. Thus, Jasper Stuyven was the Belgian team’s best scorer in week 2 with a podium on stage 13.
Behind them, Bahrain – Victorious and Visma | Lease a Bike close in thanks to GC exploits and Alec Segaert’s stage win.
On the opposite end of the ranking are stuck Picnic PostNL with no results to speak of whatsoever. Not too far ahead, Alpecin-Premier Tech, Unibet Rose Rockets and Team Jayco AlUla cant speak of a great Giro either as the lack of sprint options holds back the former two while Ben O’Connor’s fall through the GC rankings is a bitter pill to swallow for the Australian team.
