Defender Lewis Hayes will play his first game since suffering an ACL injury on debut against Sydney last year, set to suit up for Essendon’s VFL side against Werribee at Windy Hill on Sunday.
Saad El-Hawli has also fully recovered from a broken collarbone and is looking to return to the action this weekend.
Jye Caldwell will be a test after pulling up sore following the Dreamtime clash against Richmond, while Archie May is subject to a fitness test after recovering from a heavy knock in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s game.
Jordan Ridley remains a week away as he builds back from a calf injury.
Andy McGrath is out of hospital and recovering from a successful surgery after sustaining a fractured jaw in the Dreamtime clash with Richmond. He is expected to miss until at least the AFL mid-season bye.
As confirmed on Saturday, Matt Guelfi will be sidelined due to suffering a confirmed hamstring tear, and Sam Durham will miss this weekend’s match due to entering the AFL’s concussion protocols following a first-quarter collision.
Essendon will name the squad to take on West Coast Eagles this Thursday night.
