MORE speedway racing is on the cards for this year’s expanded bp Adelaide Grand Final, with a three-day event planned for the weekend before the blue riband Supercars event this year.
As alluded to on Tuesday, V8 Sleuth understands that at last night’s Adelaide Park Lands Authority meeting, it was confirmed that the additional event would be a speedway fixture.
The NAPA Speedway has featured at the two most recent Adelaide events, with last year’s fixture badly impacted by wet weather.
The expanded fixture has been pencilled in for November 20-22, with the Supercars taking to the Adelaide Parklands streets from November 26-29.
Plans for the event note that it is set to go live from 4pm on Friday evening and 8am on both Saturday and Sunday.
The past two years have seen a 342-metre-long temporary oval built on the Christian Brothers College cricket field.
The headline sprintcar meet in recent years has attracted the biggest names in the sport, with other categories, such as junior sedans, providing support.
The invitational main event in 2025 attracted a $140,000 prizepool.
Last year, the junior sedans raced on until Sunday when the early sprintcar fixtures were washed out.
The play to make speedway a standalone event could make sense on multiple fronts.
Firstly, it would limit clashes with the evening concert series – this year, Guns N’ Roses have been announced as the Sunday headline act.
Last year, two stages were constructed to host the different concerts, with the Saturday night Lenny Kravitz show held on the infield, adjacent to the speedway, while the AC/DC concert was held on the pit-straight outfield.
The proximity of the speedway to the Saturday night concert area made rescheduling the sprint car washout impossible.
Additionally, the move to host a standalone speedway event has the potential to bridge the gap between the MotoGP and Supercars race weekends in 2027, creating a three-week festival of motorsport for the city.
Elsewhere at the 2026 event, the Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship will host its grand final round.
Recent presentations made by the South Australian Motorsport Board note that new park areas are set to be opened for car parking this year, with early works ahead of the 2027 arrival of MotoGP, utilising ground close to the existing circuit.
The Adelaide Grand Final last year produced an economic impact of over $100 million.
