It’s time for the national championship.

The 2026 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship starts Friday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa’s North Course in Carlsbad, California. Thirty of the best men’s golf teams in the country will descend upon Southern California to battle it out for the national title.

And making up those teams are some of the best players in the amateur game. There are numerous stars who will play for the individual title over the coming days at Omni La Costa, including plenty who are finalists for the 2026 Haskins Award.

The likely Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year award winner has had a stellar debut season for the Cougars. In his coach’s final hoorah, perhaps Akina can have a special week at the national championship.

Paul Chang, Virginia

Chang’s story is one of the best in college golf. From playing on the Virginia club team to finally getting his shot with the Cavaliers, he has become one of college golf’s best player.

Mahanth Chirravuri, Pepperdine

Chirravuri will conclude his college career not too far from home this week. Although he hasn’t won this season, his consistency has shined. Maybe this is the week he breaks through.

Ryder Cowan, Oklahoma

Cowan had a breakout season, winning twice and coming close a third time at regionals last week. He’s a big reason the Sooners have a chance to win a title this year to send coach Ryan Hybl out with a bang.

Tom Fischer, Ole Miss

Fischer stepped up when Ole Miss needed him most. After losing its best player, and reigning NCAA medalist, Fischer filled the void and helped the Rebels win the SEC title and propel them into NCAAs.

Ben James, Virginia

James’ consistency is remarkable. He hasn’t finished outside of the top 5 this season and has a pair of wins to boot. With a strong week, he’ll lock up a PGA Tour card, too.

William Jennings, Alabama

Jennings has an awesome story. Last year, he shot 92 in a college tournament. Then last week, he tied for medalist honors at regionals and will play nationals as a individual with a shot for his biggest win yet.

Jackson Koivun, Auburn

Koivun has been the best player in college golf this season with six wins this spring. He has finished fourth and T-2 in his previous two starts at Omni La Costa. Maybe this is the week he breaks through with a win.

Christiaan Maas, Texas

Maas still has a mathematical shot to finish atop the PGA Tour U Class of 2026 rankings, though Ben James would have to have one of the worst weeks of his college career for that to happen. With three wins this year, Maas is primed for another this week.

Preston Stout, Oklahoma State

Stout has had an incredible season, capturing four wins and his third straight Big 12 individual title. He and the Cowboys will try to defend their title, but Stout can challenge for medalist honors, too.
