From the front, it is difficult to tell whether the device is the current Pixel Watch 4 or the upcoming Pixel Watch 5. The markings on the back clearly show the “Pixel Watch 5” branding, though.
The watch’s battery does not have enough juice to power up the device. However, it still retains some reserve power to briefly display the time.
Randy Pitchford says he is already in contact with the watch’s owner and has arranged for its return.
It is entirely possible that a Google employee wore the unreleased Google Pixel Watch 5 while scuba diving on vacation and accidentally lost it underwater. They likely assumed the device was gone for good. Instead, as luck would have it, another scuba diver eventually discovered the watch.
Pixel Watch 5 launch is still over two months away
As far as prototypes go, this leaked Pixel Watch 5 unit looks pretty polished. If Google follows the same release timeline as last year, the Pixel Watch 5 should debut in mid-August. That makes the appearance of such a complete-looking prototype months ahead of launch feel somewhat implausible.
Based on reports, the Pixel Watch 5 will apparently pack major internal upgrades, switching to an in-house Tensor chip. It will supposedly use newer Cortex-A78 and A55 CPU cores based on TSMC’s 3nm node. That should bring a major leap in performance and efficiency. More importantly, it will likely pave the way for Google to offer more AI features on its fifth-generation watch.
