EXTENSIVE rain has slowed progress on the build of the South Burnett Adventure and Motorsport Park, another fresh complex set for the south-east corner of Queensland.

As Moreton Motorsport Park continues its push for Queensland Government approval, the Burnett facility has been quietly progressing with its development.

Located in Ballogie, some 200km north-west of Brisbane, the venue plans to feature a wide variety of dirt-based disciplines.

The opening stage of the facility is set to feature a motorcycle speedway for juniors, seniors, sidecars and solos, plus camping grounds, while stage two will include a purpose-built clay dirt track for Sprintcars, Speedcars, Formula 500s and other four-wheeled categories.

The block already features a 3km dirt hill-climb track and is hoped to ultimately include dirt drags, tractor pulls and extensive motorcycle trials.

“Unfortunately, the project has experienced delays due to the weather,” said Russell Carswell, Director of Triple R Motorsports.

“Between November 2024 and 30 May 2026, the site received approximately 1,800mm of rain, with the majority falling during the past eight months.

“While this has put the project behind schedule, we are now starting to see some positive progress.

“With all drainage works now completed, we can begin moving forward with slashing the camping grounds, track, and car park areas to keep the site neat and tidy.

“We will also be marking out both tracks in preparation for the upcoming civil works.

“Triple R is currently waiting on the Operational Works (OPW) approval from Council, which has taken longer than expected. Once this is received, civil works will commence.”

The motorcycle speedway works to date have included drilling post holes, cutting time walling, acquiring rubber belting, building the watering truck, and completing drainage works, with all light poles now on site.

The next step is the facility’s control tower and the starting gates.

The future of speedway racing in South-East Queensland has been in the spotlight in recent years, especially since the closure of Archerfield in 2023, leaving Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oil Speedway as the region’s primary venue.

For the two-wheeled set, Mick Doohan Raceway in Brisbane was recently put on the market by the Brisbane City Council.

Elsewhere, the National Karting Development Centre on the Gold Coast is currently pushing for State Government approval.
