MARK Skaife has made pointed remarks about the need for Team 18 to heighten internal expectations to the level driven by leading football clubs in Australia.
General Motors has struggled to make its mark through the opening five rounds of its new Triple Eight-less era, with just two podiums achieved across 16 races.
Toyota, which has a smaller contingent of cars, already has eight podiums by comparison, while the remaining 38 slices of silverware have gone to Ford.
Anton De Pasquale (sixth) is the only Camaro driver inside the championship’s top 10.
Holden legend Skaife criticised GM for doing “nothing” in response to Ford’s poaching of Triple Eight and declared the Chevrolet homologation team “don’t operate well enough”.
“They are not going anywhere near well enough,” he doubled down via MotorRacing 360.
“And if you apply it to normal sport, so the NRL have got Craig Bellamy or Wayne Bennett or Ivan Cleary or whoever: they put so much pressure on that organisation to perform each weekend, they get the best from everyone in that outfit.
“They’re not like that. Team 18 are not operating like a proper, proper factory team.”
Bellamy and Bennett are two of the most prolific NRL coaches of all-time, and Cleary has overseen the ongoing Penrith Panthers dynasty of the 2020s.
Triple Eight are the Supercars equivalent for setting the standard ultra-high, known for often considering anything but victory to be a bad day at the office.
Team 18 has added plenty of valuable personnel and resources over the years, but the harsh reality is that it remains with just two wins, three poles and 13 podiums from 422 championship races.
Only the Blanchard Racing Team and PremiAir Racing have fewer total wins, those outfits having debuted in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
