Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams ticked off another box on his bucket list after being featured on the cover of Madden NFL 27. He became the first player of the Bears to be given the honor by EA Sports for the highly popular video game.

Williams joined an esteemed club of Madden NFL cover players, joining Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Brett Favre, Eddie George, Ray Lewis, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson, among others.

Fans quickly noticed that the cover of the 24-year-old Williams, who appeared to throw a jump pass, bore a resemblance to an iconic poster of Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan for his signature shoes in 1985.

Williams confirmed that his cover was indeed an homage to Jordan, noting that it was his idea to put the Chicago skyline in the backdrop. Jordan made the Windy City the epicenter of the sports world during his dynastic run with the Bulls.

“That was the position I wanted to be in, but I also wanted to pay respect to MJ. That was more of what it was. It was a form of respecting, bringing retro back, not letting people forget that, and doing it on my side of the world of football,” said the former Heisman Trophy winner in the video posted by CHGO Bears.

“Paying respect to that and him and what MJ did in Chicago, just honestly wanted to bring that energy, that vibe back, and we’re on the track to do that, we gotta keep winning games.”

It was a dream come true for the fast-rising signal-caller, who grew up playing Madden NFL. He said being on the cover is further validation of his hard work and self-belief.

“I set out these big goals, I set out these dreams, and it’s another small stepping stone to tell me to keep going and that I’m going in the right direction,” added Williams.

He led the Bears to the NFC North title last season, ending the team’s four-year drought in the playoffs.

Williams, the No. 1 pick in 2024, threw for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns.
