Israel Folau’s brother has revealed the latest on his potentially stunning return to the NRL.

On Tuesday 2GB’s Spiro Christopoulos claimed the 37-year-old is looking to finish his career by returning to the league where he made his name.

Now the older brother of the ex-Storm and Broncos man, David Folau, has confirmed “four or five clubs” have been in contact about signing him.

Speaking to Channel 9, David said: “Israel has a management team and they have received interest from four or five clubs and they have been great to deal with.

“It’s just a question of sorting out a few details and hopefully a deal can be done.”

Folau has divided opinion in the past, landing himself in hot water with homophobic remarks on social media.

But David feels those kinds of issues are now behind his brother, adding: “Israel is older and wiser now and the great thing about league is we’re a game of second chances — it’s what we stand on as a community.

Is it a risk to take Reece Walsh into State of Origin Game 2?

“I can understand the doubters but he just scored 16 tries in 20 games in Japan,”

Folau has not played in the NRL since 2010 — when the former Melbourne Storm high flyer left the Brisbane Broncos to join new AFL team the GWS Giants as a marquee player.

Folau’s AFL career was brief as he managed just 13 games for the Giants in 2011 and 2012 before switching to rugby union with the NSW Waratahs.

The former Wallaby, who has since represented Tonga, made a brief return to rugby league with French club Catalans Dragons in 2020.

But he is currently playing rugby union in Japan with Urayasu D-Rocks.
