George Clooney has fuelled rumours that Dua Lipa’s boyfriend, Callum Turner, is set to become the next actor to play James Bond following Daniel Craig’s decision to step down from the iconic role.
Clooney has insisted that Turner should become the next face of one of cinemas most revered, bankable franchises, and his thoughts back up the rumour mill that has been swirling for months and firmly placed the British star as one of the favourites.
“I hope Callum ends up being the next Bond. I think he would be a great Bond,” Clooney said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “He’s tall and handsome and charming and British, so he’s the perfect guy to do it.”
Turner stated he knows “as much as you do” regarding the role and found it “weird” that even close friends and long-lost acquaintances inquire about it despite him having no information.
“I will tell you what’s so funny about the Bond thing: Even your best friends ask you, people text you that you haven’t spoken to for 10 years – and you know nothing! “It is such a weird thing of something happening and nothing happening at all. I genuinely know nothing. I just find it quite amusing.”
When asked if he’s at least interested in the role, Turner laughed: “I’m not going to comment on that.”
There has been significant speculation in recent weeks as to who could be offered the role after Amazon MGM announced that the search for an actor is officially underway.
It was announced last summer that the next film will be written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, while will be directed by Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve.
Other actors tipped for the role include Tom Francais, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Harry Dickinson.
Meanwhile, hundreds of guests piled into Villa Valguarnera in Sicily to celebrate the wedding of pop star Dua Lipa and actor Callum Turner last weekend.
After a ceremonial exchange of vows, Elton John serenaded the couple with a special rendition of Your Song, and among those in attendance were Charli XCX and Donatella Versace.
The celebrations came a week after the couple officially tied the knot in a civil ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall in London on May 31.
