Brisbane’s season has gone from bad to worse with Adam Reynolds leaving the field injured against the Rabbitohs.

The Broncos put in another lacklustre performance against South Sydney, losing 48-6, and also had Ezra Mam leave the field in the second half.

In the first half, Reynolds was captured struggling with injury but managed to play on until there was 20 minutes left when he went down in back play.

His absence was obvious because as the trainer attended to him, Ben Hunt went into halfback and threw a pass to Preston Riki who had his back completely turned and conceded possession.

“Oh my gosh … if something epitomises where the Broncos are at the moment, it’s this play,” Andrew Johns said on Nine.

Initially, Reynolds’ injury appeared to be cramp as he went for the pickle juice treatment.

As the scrum was being formed, Reynolds was on the wing hobbling while Mam clutched at his shoulder from halfback.

Reynolds left once the scrum finished with Tom Duffy replacing him. Mam went into halfback, but his struggles were clear too.

“Ezra can’t pass the ball, he’ll have to come off, he’s holding that shoulder … he’s in all sorts, he’s looking at the bench,” Johns said.

Grant Anderson made a tryscoring attempt while Mam was playing in the centres before the latter came from the field.

Reynolds was captured with ice on his hamstring, but the Broncos halfback said he was just “tight” and will be OK during the post-game press conference.

Mam’s injury was confirmed as an AC joint issue by coach Michael Maguire.

Post-match, Johns was strong in his assessment of Brisbane’s finals hopes.

“They’re gone – unfortunately, it’s not the year. They want to start planning their holiday because the wheels have well and truly fallen off,” he said.

During the press conference, Reynolds was also asked about a break he made eight minutes into the match.

Adam Reynolds tries to find Jesse Arthars after an intercept. Nine

The halfback ran 68 metres following an intercept and attempted to find support, but had to dummy to Jesse Arthars who was too far behind him.

It was put to Reynolds that his body may have been seizing up, but Reynolds’ reply put it down to support play in a moment that wasn’t a good sign for the Broncos.

“I was looking for support, I’m not the fastest, any time there’s open space you put your head down for 20 (metres) and then look for support,” he said.

“Unfortunately, it didn’t get there, but it would’ve been nice.”
