A vital partnership between Marnus Labuschagne and Xavier Bartlett rescued Australia in a rain-hit second ODI against Bangladesh.

The Aussies were in all sorts, producing their worst ever start to an ODI innings when they lost three wickets before getting off the mark with Matt Short, Cooper Connolly and Matt Renshaw all gone for ducks.

Josh Inglis and Alex Carey finally got the visitors’ innings going before it was the out-of-form Labuschagne, batting at No.7, able to partner with Brisbane Heat teammate Bartlett and leading Australia to a somewhat competitive 8-187.

Labuschagne finished 55 not out, with Bartlett bowled for 52, in a 103-run partnership before rain struck in Dhaka and a wet outfield saw no play for several hours.

Eventually Bangladesh was set a DLS-revised target of 192 runs from 41 overs.

Bangladesh won the opening match of the series by 86 runs, their first ODI victory over Australia in 21 years.
