Mercedes and its championship-leading young gun Kimi Antonelli have made fun of reality star Kim Kardashian’s viral towel-pinching moment at the Monaco Grand Prix.

After a weekend making headlines with her appearance at the famous race to support beau Lewis Hamilton, Kardashian sent the internet into a spin again after the race when video emerged of her picking up a towel which had been meant for race winner Antonelli.

Kardashian was caught on camera walking past the P1 podium box and grabbing the white towel reserved for the winner to dab at her face.

The moment has since become a viral meme on social media.

The Mercedes social media team didn’t miss an opportunity to make light of the great towel heist ahead of this weekend’s grand prix in Barcelona.

In a video posted to the team’s Instagram, Antonelli and his teammate George Russell also get in on the fun.

“I was wondering. Have you seen my towel,” Antonelli said to the camera in the clip.

The camera then moves on to the Italian teenager’s teammate Russell, who was asked: “George, have you seen Kimi’s towel?” to which the Brit replied, “No”.

The last part of the video sees Antonelli washing his hands at a sink before he again asks, “Hey, have you seen my towel?”

The Mercedes social media video has so far been shared more than 27,000 times and has had more than 18,000 comments.

Towel-gate was not the only viral moment in Monaco for Kardashian, who also made headlines for brushing F1 commentator Martin Brundle during his iconic grid walk.

Antonelli claimed his fifth straight win of the season with his victory in Monaco to extend his lead in the drivers’ championship.
