But the Roos have opted to challenge that sanction on Tuesday night.

AFL great Leigh Matthews believes the ban is a hefty price to pay.

“I think it’s a careless tackle,’ he said On The Couch.

“You pin the arms, turn the body and the other guy’s head hit the ground … I think that is the criteria of the dangerous tackle.

“I don’t think it’s a three-weeker … I do think he’s guilty. I would say it’s careless.”

Fellow Couch panellists Nathan Buckley and Jordan Lewis questioned if there were other factors that contributed to Davis’ concussion outcome.

“If that was Elliot Yeo that he was tackling … bit stronger body, a bit heavier – the exact same tackle, with the exact same intent would we have got the same outcome?” Buckley questioned.

“What about the hardness of the surface?” Lewis added.

“It’s the hardest ground in the AFL.”

The AFL Tribunal hearing will begin at 5pm AEST.
