He only averaged 15.6 points in 41.4 percent shooting across the Spurs’ 21 playoff games. In five games of the championship series, his struggles were glaring, putting up passive numbers of 12.8 points in 34.3 percent shooting.
And during the most critical time that would have saved San Antonio’s title hopes, he committed one of the most blunderous plays that will be remembered back in Game 4, shooting an unsuccessful layup despite them leading with several seconds remaining, which led to the Spurs’ historic 107-106 collapse.
Apparently, despite the negativity and uncertainty surrounding Fox’s standing in San Antonio following a nightmare run, the Spurs are still reportedly committed to him.

During Monday’s episode of SportsCenter, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst delivered an eye-opening statement surrounding Fox and his future in San Antonio.
According to an NBA expert and insider, the Spurs remain committed to continuing to push forward with the star point guard, despite the nightmare run he had this year.
“I know there’s a lot of interesting in whether they might do something with De’Aaron Fox, but they are committed to him right now as their franchise point guard,” said Windhorst. “And I think they will remain that way.”
The Spurs acquired Fox from the Sacramento Kings during the 2024-25 NBA trade deadline. In last year’s offseason, they hammered a long-term deal with the veteran guard, inking a four-year, $229 million max extension.
In the end, it remains to be seen whether the Spurs will remain loyal to Fox, considering the urgency for them to retool in the offseason and the sudden rumblings around Dylan Harper heading into the 2026-27 season.
