Payne continues North’s strong quarter

Geordie Payne drills a tough set shot to put the Roos back in front!

It’s been quite the reversal of fortunes in front of goal for North this quarter after being unable to hit the side of a barn in the first.

The numbers continue to build against Richmond. The inside 50 count reads 22-13 North’s way, and they’ve also got an 18-12 lead in the clearances.

Rioli with a bit of magic to spark Tigers

Oh this is brilliant from Maurice Jr!

The Tigers have been up against it so far this quarter, but are finally able to go inside 50.

Tom Lynch is the target, as expected, and he’s able to bring the ball to ground.

Rioli gets on the end of a handball and converts the checkside beautifully on his right boot.

Lynch now has five contested marks for the match.

11m agoSun 17 Aug 2025 at 4:01amKangaroos believe Zurhaar has hurt his ankle, not his knee

Fox Footy’s coverage reporting that the Kangaroos believe Cam Zurhaar has hurt his ankle, rather than his knee in that tackle at the start of the quarter.

That would be a much better result for the Roos.

Fingers crossed, we’re hoping for the best possible news for Cam!

He’s now on the Kangaroos bench with some crutches alongside him.

Whitlock officially subbed on for Zurhaar

Cam Zurhaar is done for the day with Matt Whitlock coming onto the ground.

It is Whitlock’s first AFL appearance since Round 4 this year.

If you remember last year’s AFL draft, the Kangaroos traded this year’s first-rounder to the Tigers to be able to take Whitlock on the second night of the draft.

Curtis puts the Kangaroos in front!

Paul Curtis has two goals in two minutes and the Roos have hit the front!

A lovely finish on the set shot as well after his teammates struggled in the opening quarter.

Curtis has enjoyed a sensational season this year, definitely one of the Kangaroos’ shining lights.

Curtis strikes after 50m penalty

Paul Curtis gets the Kangaroos off to a great start in the second quarter after winning a 50m penalty.

Curtis rams one home from inside the square. You’ve gotta love the intensity both these sides have brought this afternoon despite their ladder positions.

They’re going at this footy like it’s an elimination final.

19m agoSun 17 Aug 2025 at 3:52amZurhaar limps off after gruesome tackle

Oh no, this is a horrible look for Cam Zurhaar!

Zurhaar is dragged down in a tackle on the boundary line and his left leg bends very, very awkwardly under him.

He immediately clutches at his left knee and he’s helped to the bench by two Kangaroos trainers.

Alastair Clarkson looks extremely worried and Matt Whitlock, who is North’s sub, immediately starts warming up.

The Hawks lead the Lions in the AFLW

The first AFLW match of the day is into the third quarter, with Hawthorn currently leading Brisbane by eight points in Ipswich.

Hawks star Tilly Lucas-Rodd is having a dominant match as per usual and is up to 19 disposals and two clearances to lead all players.

Orla O’Dwyer is Brisbane’s leading ball-winner with 14 disposals.

Casey Sherriff, Aine McDonagh and Greta Bodey have Hawthorn’s goals, while Taylor Smith and Dakota Davidson have hit the scoreboard for the Lions.

Still anyone’s game!

Richmond coach Adem Yze will be thrilled to take a seven-point lead into the first change.

Efficiency has been the name of the game so far in this match. The Tigers haven’t gone inside 50 a whole lot, but have looked extremely dangerous whenever they do.

Comparatively, the Kangaroos have been wasteful, both with their inside 50 entries and their shots on goal.

The Roos’ first quarter score of 2.7 includes a 0.5 mark on set shots, that’s not going to get it done.

The top seven leading ball-winners on the ground are North players, led by Harry Sheezel, who has 13 disposals and three clearances.

Five Tigers have six disposals, including Tom Lynch, who looks like he’s ready to tear this match apart.

Lynch already has four marks and he’s kicked 2.2.

The Kangaroos wasteful so far

The Kangaroos need more bang for buck with their inside 50 entries at the moment.

They lead that department 15-8, but have so far kicked just 2.6.

Charlie Comben misses a very, very gettable shot on goal after a 50m penalty brought him within scoring range.

Roos fume after a pair of free kick calls

James Tresize kicks Richmond’s fourth goal of the match after being infringed upon in a marking contest.

The Roos are fuming after George Wardlaw almost got decapitated in a Toby Nankervis tackle attempt.

The umpire called holding the ball instead and Dion Prestia took the advantage and sent a long one inside 50 where Tresize was infringed upon.

Tom Lynch very influential in the lead-up to that goal again, he’s having a huge afternoon so far.

Wardlaw wasn’t happy at all after that free kick call, and engages in some push and shove with Lynch, who we know absolutely loves all that stuff.

The Kangaroos faithful in attendance are showering the ground with boos as Tresize kicks his goal.

Simpkin shows a touch of class from the pocket

Lovely finish from the Kangaroos skipper!

The territorial dominance from the Roos in the last few minutes finally pays dividends.

Cam Zurhaar dishes off a handball to Jy Simpkin, who finishes beautifully from a tough angle on the run.

44m agoSun 17 Aug 2025 at 3:28am

A big difference in forward 50 entries right now

The Kangaroos are getting some more territory over the last few minutes, but they’ve looked very messy going forward.

A lot of their kicks inside 50 are to big packs, which aren’t helpful at all.

Comparatively, the Tigers have done well to isolate Lynch on Pink.

The usual suspects are all getting a ton of the footy for the Kangaroos, with Colby McKercher’s eight touches leading the way.

49m agoSun 17 Aug 2025 at 3:22am

Mansell continues Richmond’s hot start

The Tigers have three goals in four minutes as Rhyan Mansell drills a set shot from 40m out on a slight angle.

The Tigers look absolutely dynamic every time they’ve gone inside 50.

Their five inside 50s have led to four scores so far.

51m agoSun 17 Aug 2025 at 3:21am

Lynch makes it two goals in two minutes

Richmond’s premiership stars are having their way at the moment!

Kamdyn McIntosh won the centre clearance and dishes off to Jack Ross, who sends a lovely long ball into the square where Tom Lynch outmuscles Toby Pink.

“You’ve got to make a change, he’s just too good for him at the moment,” says Kangaroos great David King on Fox Footy’s coverage.

Lynch already has four kicks, three marks and two goals and is easily the top-ranked player on the ground.

53m agoSun 17 Aug 2025 at 3:19am

Lynch gets the Tigers on the board

Tom Lynch is up and about early folks!

After a missing an earlier set shot, Lynch flushes this next one from outside 50m out.

He’s got Toby Pink on him and Pink looks slightly overmatched to say the least.

58m agoSun 17 Aug 2025 at 3:14am

Zurhaar dribbles home the opener

Terrific finish from Cam Zurhaar as he dribbles one home from the pocket on the left foot!

Lovely coast-to-coast transition from the Roos after Tom Lynch’s miss from a set shot at the other end.

Zurhaar has kicked 11 goals in his last three games with the Tigers, their defence have to be up and about around him this afternoon for sure.

1h agoSun 17 Aug 2025 at 3:10amTigers forced into late change ahead of first bounce

We’re off and running in Tasmania!

Some late, late, late team news from the Tigers just before the first bounce.

The Kangaroos will line up as originally selected.
