Original Pick: RHP Matt Manning
Luzardo’s Original Draft Position: No. 94 overall
When the Phillies acquired Jesús Luzardo from the Marlins prior to the 2025 season, it marked the third time in his career the left-hander had been traded, but he has found a long-term home after inking a five-year, $135 million extension in March.
The 28-year-old has topped 30 starts just twice in his career, providing frontline production in 2023 (32 GS, 3.58 ERA, 208 K, 178.2 IP) and 2025 (32 GS, 3.92 ERA, 216 K, 183.2 IP). He would have been a solid No. 2 option behind Tarik Skubal during those standout campaigns.
Matt Manning was committed to play baseball and basketball at Loyola Marymount out of high school. He had a 4.43 ERA in 254 innings in the majors after emerging as one of baseball’s top pitching prospects, but he has not pitched in the big leagues since 2024 and is recovering from Tommy John surgery as a member of the KBO’s Samsung Lions.
