It’s been a rowdy time for the hundreds of Sydneysiders packed into Enmore’s Golden Barley this morning, but you could hear a pin drop when Cameron Burgess scored the early opener for the USA.
For all the enthusiasm early on – booing every time US manager Mauricio Pochettino came onto the screen (and a particularly large amount of hate for the military fly over ahead of kick-off) – a somber feeling has settled on the crowd with possession so much in the US’ favour and a controversial (if you’re asking the fans) call that led to the US’ second goal.

One punter threatened to go home early.
But half-time calls for more pints, more party pies and a bathroom break. This Sydney crowd hasn’t given up on their Socceroos yet: there’s still 45 minutes of football and everyone’s new favourite superstar to come, Nestory Irankunda.
Let’s take the sound advice of another punter: “It’s not over yet.”
