Australian actor Tristan Rogers, best known for General Hospital, The Young and the Restless and The Bay has died, aged 79.

He died on Friday following a battle with lung cancer. But his manager said he had never been a smoker.

Rogers who had early career appearances on Barrier Reed, Number 96, The Box, Power Without Glory and Bellbird, starred as Robert Scorpio on General Hospital, variously from 1980 – 2025.

“He loved being Scorpio, and he created that role from nothing. He was supposed to work a day, and he ended up making it into something huge. He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being, and he loved his family.”

General Hospital showrunner Frank Valentini said in a statement, “The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers’ passing. Tristan has captivated our fans for 45 years and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio). I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time. Tristan was a one-of-a-kind talent and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.”

He also played Colin Atkinson on The Young & the Restless from 2010 – 2019 and Commissioner Lex Martin on The Bay from 2010 – 2023.

Other credits included Babylon 5, The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, Batman Beyond, Studio City and The Rescuers Down Under.
