In the wake of the Heat being heavily favored to claim the Greek superstar, Zach Lowe dropped a significant warning about the consequences of pulling the trigger with the Milwaukee Bucks.
“You get into the concerns that I think are very real for Miami. If we do this and all our first-round picks are out the door, and [Kasparas]Jakucionis is out the door, and all our young guys are out the door, what is it going to amount to?” Lowe said in The Bill Simmons Podcast.
“You could argue, what is the present state of the team going to amount to? But at least you have some optionality down the line for whoever the next star that becomes available is.”
The Bucks are reportedly unsatisfied with the expected package being given by the Heat that includes Tyler Herro, Kel’El Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and their No. 13 pick of the upcoming NBA Draft.
Previously, it was also revealed that the likes of Kasparas Jakucionis, Nikola Jovic and Pelle Larsson were also included in multiple iterations of Giannis trade framework.
Milwaukee is demanding to get everything it can from Antetokounmpo, which puts Miami in a tough spot of pulling a mega deal around the two-time MVP.
Bill Simmons doubts Giannis’ age, health, success in potential Miami landing
Beyond the asset-draining perspective, Bill Simmons is unconvinced by the Miami Heat pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo who has not been relatively healthy and successful in recent years.
Antetokounmpo was limited to just 36 games this past NBA season, battling calf and several other injury issues. Ever since 2022, he hasn’t made it past the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
With Antetokounmpo now in his early 30s, Simmons doubts the long-term fit of the Greek star in Miami.
“On top of it, you’re getting a guy that hasn’t made even the conference finals in five years, who has had trouble staying healthy. He’s 31, 32 years old, and you’re banking that he’s gonna completely change your playoff destiny,” Simmons argued. “The more you put in the trade, the less likely that goes.”
It remains to be seen how everything will unfold, but the Heat appear to be locked in and fully committed to finally embracing Antetokounmpo on their side.
