ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Dads across our hometowns celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday, whether relaxing on the couch, splashing in the pool or bringing out the golf clubs. That’s what one Roanoke business opened its doors for.
The Star City Golf Club on Williamson Road is an indoor golf simulation facility that welcomes golfers of all skill levels. Players can choose from more than 2,500 courses, including Roanoke’s Ballyhack.
Owner Tim Horne said Father’s Day was much busier than usual.
“Today we had family, we had six or eight or 10 people in some of these bays and moms and dads and grandmas and grandpas, and everybody was just kind of celebrating where they wouldn’t have been able to do that on the golf course,” Horne said. “Say dad is an avid golfer. He loves to play and he wants to spend time with his family. They got an opportunity to do both today.”
Sunday marked Star City Golf Club’s first Father’s Day since opening in December.
Horne said his biggest supporter in opening the business was his father, who started picking up the sport in his late 40s.
“We kind of started playing together at about the same time, not even with each other so much,” Horne said. “And then we both got interested in the game, so then we started playing together. And we’ve played a lot of golf together. And it’s one of our favorite places to spend time and I just love being on the golf course in general.”
During the day, fathers who played a round of golf with their kids were entered into a raffle to win two free hours of playtime. The raffle winner was Jayde Dudley.
