Sonia Kruger is exploring career opportunities beyond Australia as Channel Seven continues to review its entertainment line-up and rein in spending, it has been claimed.
According to The Australian’s Media Diary, the 60-year-old television veteran has spent recent weeks assembling a professional “sizzle reel” aimed at potential employers in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The reported move comes as Seven continues to reassess several of its major reality franchises, including Dancing with the Stars (DWTS),which Kruger has co-hosted for over a decade.
While Kruger remains firmly attached to The Voice, which is set to return in August following Seven’s coverage of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, uncertainty also reportedly remains around the show’s long-term future.
Media Diary claims the network has “yet to lock in the reality karaoke contest for next year” amid concerns about its “high production costs and international licensing fees”.
Should The Voice also be placed on hold, the publication suggested it could leave Kruger with limited on-air opportunities at Seven.
The Gold Logie winner recently fuelled speculation about her international ambitions after sharing a series of social media posts documenting a trip to Los Angeles in partnership with United Airlines.
“Whirlwind weekend. SYD > LAX in the best possible way…The Polaris experience with United Airlines is next level!” she captioned one post.
“Pretending this is my normal life!” she captioned another.
Kruger, who is married to former Seven News executive Craig McPherson, remains one of Australia’s most recognisable television personalities and is understood to be earning a salary of more than $1 million annually.
Her television career spans more than three decades, beginning with her memorable role as Tina Sparkle in the 1992 Australian film Strictly Ballroom.
She joined Seven in 1997 as an entertainment reporter before becoming a familiar face on Sunrise, Today Tonight and Dancing with the Stars (DWTS).
In late 2011, Kruger made the high-profile move to rival network Channel Nine, where she hosted Big Brother and co-hosted the daytime program Mornings alongside David Campbell.
Her return to Seven in 2019 was hailed as a major coup for the network, with then-chief executive James Warburton declaring: “Sonia is without a doubt a superstar and one of the best television talents in Australia.
“I speak on behalf of the entire Seven team when I say that Sonia was the one that got away.”
From 2020, Kruger became one of Seven’s most prominent stars, fronting Big Brother, Holey Moley, Dancing with the Stars, The Voice and The Voice: Generations.
However, the network’s entertainment slate has since undergone a dramatic transformation, with Holey Moley and The Voice: Generations lasting just one season, while Big Brother returned to its original home on Network 10 last year.
Speculation about Kruger’s future at Seven intensified in October when New Idea reported she appeared looking “stressed” while leaving the network’s 2026 program launch event, as rumours first began swirling that Dancing with the Stars could be nearing the end of its run.
However, sources close to Kruger told the outlet that both she and her management team are “fully aware” of the changing landscape and are “comfortable with it”.
“Sonia is still as engaging and enigmatic as usual. There is no one else who can do what she does,” the source said.
“Plus, people love to work with her.”
